Shai Gilgeous-Alexander finishes 8th in Western Conference guard All-Star voting

Oklahoma City Thunder Shai Gilgeous-Alexander finished No. 8 in voting for All-Star guards, as fellow players around the league gave him more love than fans around the NBA.

The NBA released its All-Star Game starters and the final results of voting from the fans, players and media on Thursday.

Gilgeous-Alexander finished 11th in fan voting, behind players including Klay Thompson and Alex Caruso. In the voting done by players, though, he was seventh, tied with former teammate Chris Paul, who is now on the Phoenix Suns.

He did not receive a vote from any members of the media, who only voted for starters. There were only four guards in the Western Conference who received any votes from reporters.

The starting guards in the Western Conference are Golden State Warriors guard Steph Curry and Dallas Mavericks guard/forward Luka Doncic.

The frontcourt starters will be Los Angeles Lakers forward LeBron James, who is the captain of the team for the fourth year in a row, Denver Nuggets center Nikola Jokic and Los Angeles Clippers forward Kawhi Leonard.

NBA coaches will vote on the reserves, which means there is still a chance Gilgeous-Alexander gets in the game.

The other guards who finished with a better weighted score than the Thunder star were Damian Lillard, Donovan Mitchell, Devin Booker and Ja Morant.

Frontcourt players who had a better score than Gilgeous-Alexander included Anthony Davis, Paul George, Zion Williamson, Brandon Ingram and Christian Wood.
