Geetika Mehandru is in a happy space professionally. The actress is balancing three mediums – TV, films and OTT. Currently seen in the daily soap Choti Sarrdaarni, and MX Player’s web series Roohaniyat, Geetika is now awaiting the release of the Shahid Kapoor-starrer Jersey, in which she plays a journalist. This is the second film after Kabir Singh (2019), in which she will share screen space with the Bollywood actor.
Talking about her experience of working with Shahid, Geetika says, “My journey in Bollywood began with Shahid’s Kabir Singh. I have learnt a great deal by watching him perform on the set. I feel fortunate to have got the opportunity to share screen space with someone who is extremely passionate and enthusiastic about his craft. He is also very accommodating as a person. He never treated me like a fresher. He, in fact, guided me through my scenes and encouraged me to do better. He’s humble, kind, dedicated and hard-working. On the set, he’s always in his character. It’s commendable to see him switch his mood according to the requirement of a scene so swiftly.”
Geetika is all praise for Shahid’s co-star Mrunal Thakur as well. The latter became a household name with her stint as Bulbul in Kumkum Bhagya before she moved to films. Geetika says, “Mrunal is doing some great projects. She gives people like us hope that we, too, can also make it big in Bollywood. TV and films are very different as mediums. While TV tends to get OTT, content in films is more realistic. I want to take up more projects in Bollywood.”
She is also pleased with the way her track is shaping up in Choti Sarrdaarni, a show that she had quit in June last year, as the graph of her character didn’t live up to her expectations. She says, “I quit the show because I wasn’t too happy with my track and also because it was going in for a time leap. I am glad that I took a break from the show in June because I could use that time to prepare for my character in Roohaniyat. I joined the show again in December because I was promised a better track. My character Ginni is back with more power.”
