Shaggy has claimed that Prince Harry is a fan of his music.

In a recent interview, the singer reflected on meeting the royal in Jamaica in 2012.

“He came to visit the Bustamante Hospital for Children,” Shaggy told TheObserver magazine. “My daughter thought he was supposed to be a prince on a horse, like in her storybook. He turned to me and said, ‘Wow, she’s just so not impressed,’ and then he sang ‘It Wasn’t Me’.

“So Prince Harry is a Shaggy fan!”

“It Wasn’t Me” was the first single from Shaggy’s 2000 album Hot Shot. It was the highest-selling single of the year in the UK.

In the same interview, Shaggy said he likes to imagine the Queen is an avid listener of his music, after he performed at her 92nd birthday party at London's Royal Albert Hall in 2018.

“Afterwards I was standing right beside her,” he said. “It would have been crazy if she was like, ‘Hello, Mr Boombastic.’”

Shaggy’s last album, 2019’s Wah Gwaan?!, was given two stars by The Independent’s critic Jack Shepherd, who described it as a “dismal farrago of a record”.
