‘Shady’ dealings: Andre Roberts unhappy with Jets over contract negotiations

One of the most surprising moves of the Jets’ offseason was their decision not to retain Pro Bowl kick returner Andre Roberts. That’s his opinion, anyway.

Roberts, who led the league in total kick return yards and average yards per punt return, signed with the Bills after the Jets low-balled him. The Daily News’ Manish Mehta reported the Jets “went dark” after making a team-friendly offer. Roberts, meanwhile, called the Jets’ handling of the negotiations “shady.”

Roberts’ deal with the Bills ended up being for two-years and $5 million, money the Jets could have easily topped. Part of the reason Roberts joined the Bills, he said, was because he’d be able to play the Jets twice a year, so he clearly holds a lot of animosity towards Gang Green.

After the Jets signed wide receiver Josh Bellamy, many became curious as to the fate of Roberts. While Bellamy isn’t a return specialist at all like Roberts, he does have a lot of experience on special teams. And when a fan tweeted about curiosity as to why the Jets brought in Bellamy, Roberts responded with a cryptic tweet.

The Jets took a massive hit in free agency by letting Roberts and kicker Jason Myers go. Now, they’ll have to watch their former special teams stud perform for a rival in Buffalo
