"Sha la la la loada, bulls****": Paddy McGuinness tears into Dominic Cummings with hilarious Barnard Castle song

Paddy McGuinness has expressed his feelings about the Dominic Cummings saga through song - putting his own cheeky spin on a classic track.

The Bolton comic filmed himself singing the Tony Christie hit 'Is this the way to Amarillo?' with a few topical tweaks to the lyrics.

Yesterday, the senior government aide held a press conference, to answer to criticism of his decision to drive from London to Durham earlier in lockdown to arrange childcare for his young son, after his wife fell ill.

It included him explaining that he did a 'test drive' to Barnard Castle to check he was well enough to drive before going home.

It's fair to say Paddy's tuneful rendition of the pop song left his fans in no doubt about what he thought about the senior aide's explanation of events.

Changing the name 'Marie' to 'Mary' in a nod to Mr Cumming's wife, Mary Wakefield, he sang: "Is this the way to Barnard Castle? You see my vision's a bit of a hassle, is this the way to Barnard Castle, where sweet Mary waits for me."

*Warning, mild bad language*

He also tweaked arguably the most well known line of the song, which had a resurgence in popularity several years ago thanks to his pal Peter Kay, to 'sha la la la, loada bulls****'

The Top Gear host shared the video with the caption 'I've finally lost it in lockdown' on Twitter, where it has now been viewed more than a million times and received more than 80,000 likes.

The video was a hit with most of the people who replied with comments - some of whom had some suggestions of their own.

Craig Thompson replied: "Next Top Gear Special. "Drive from London to Durham, no toilet stops. Then to Barnard Castle. Then back to London, again no stops. Only 1 tank of fuel allowed".

While Steve Swain tweeted in reply: "You've just won the internet today Paddy."
