SGS College reopens for students to have face-to-face tutor sessions

SGS College has reopened for students after an extended period of closure due to the coronavirus crisis.

From June 15, 2020, first year students at SGS College have been welcomed back for a face-to-face personal tutor session. All current learners will be contacted to discuss their individual appointment time over the course of the next week.

SGS College remained open throughout the pandemic for vulnerable learners, and children of key workers, but latest government guidance and extensive risk assessments mean the Stroud, Filton and WISE campuses can now receive students back to undertake a face-to-face session with their tutor.

All sessions will be set up in locations that facilitate social distancing with extensive investment having being made to ensure all health and safety requirements are in place before any learners or staff return to the campuses.

Sara-Jane Watkins, College principal Sara-Jane Watkins said: “After a very challenging period of college closure we are delighted to be in a position to start welcoming learners back to SGS College.

"Staff and learner safety is at the forefront of all planned activity and we have taken robust steps to ensure the environment is conducive to social distancing and that staff and learners feel safe.

"With so many young people not having had any face-to-face delivery for a number of months and many having had their exams cancelled, it is more important than ever that we start to re-engage face with students and to bring some semblance of normality back.

"However, we understand that some learners may still be anxious about being on site so we will continue to offer alternative modes of engaging with the college online, including enrolling, undertaking tutorials and completing projects in preparation for the new academic year.”

A more extensive opening of the campuses to cater for commercial, sporting and practical based activities will be considered when guidance suggests it is safe to do so, but all of these facilities currently remain closed.
