SFA make Scottish Cup crowd noise decision as Hampden set for eerie semi-final silence

The SFA have decided against piping in crowd noise for this weekend's Scottish Cup semi-finals at Hampden.

With no crowds heading into the national stadium for the games because of coronavirus, some clubs have opted to have noise piped in through the PA system.

Celtic, Hearts and Hibs have all done so during their home games at Celtic Park, Tynecastle and Easter Road, while Aberdeen haven't at Pittodrie.

But the national stadium will instead be filled with the sound of silence for the semi-finals, with Scottish FA officials confirming there will be no use of canned crowd noise.

Saturday’s Edinburgh derby between Hearts and Hibs, and Aberdeen’s encounter with Celtic the following day would usually have attracted capacity crowds.

But instead the Hampden stands will be empty of both fans and atmosphere for the mouthwatering double-header.

The games were originally due to take place back in April but were postponed when football was shut down because of the Covid-19 outbreak.

While the SPFL decided to call the league seasons, the SFA opted to play out the tournament when safe to do so and had hoped there'd be crowds in by now.

But rising cases means there's no chance of any supporters being at the national stadium on Saturday and Sunday.
