SFA hit with FIFA fine over Scotland fans jeering of Israel national anthem at Hampden

The Tartan Army have landed the SFA with a FIFA fine after booing the Israeli national anthem before last month’s dramatic World Cup qualifier.

And the Scotland fans were also rapped for displaying an inappropriate flag during the Hampden blockbuster.

Scotland produced a fantastic comeback to grab an injury time winner against old foes Israel to put Steve Clarke's side firmly in the driving seat for the play-off spot.

However, the Israeli national anthem was booed during its rendition by a section of home fans at a sell-out Hampden Park.

It was mentioned in the delegate's report and the SFA has been hit with a fine of £8,024 by FIFA's disciplinary committee for that - and the flying of a flag.

The SFA were hit with a breach of FIFA Disciplinary Code Article 16 and the world's governing body explained the fine was due to: "Order and security at matches (disturbance during national anthems, use of objects - flag - to transmit a message that is not appropriate for a sports event).”

Scotland's next World Cup opponent, Moldova, were fined almost £25,000 for a kid flying a drone ahead of their qualifier with Austria and booing of the visitor's national anthem.

FIFA explained the fine was for: "Order and security at matches (invasion of the field of play, drone causing a disturbance during national anthems)."
