SFA give Rutherglen Glencairn green light to bid for club licence

Rutherglen Glencairn will eventually be able to climb through the Scottish football pyramid structure and compete in the Scottish Cup, after being given initial approval by the SFA in their bid for an Entry Level Club Licence.

The West of Scotland League Premier Division club's management committee asked at last month's AGM to be given approval to formerly apply for membership of the Scottish Football Association and obtain an Entry Level Club Licence. Their application was submitted on October 22 and initial approval was granted during a Scottish FA board meeting four days later.

Their application will now be forwarded to the Scottish FA's Club Licensing Department to progress, and they will inform the club of the next stage thereafter.

Rutherglen Glencairn haven't put any deadlines on final approval for the application, but say they are working hard behind the scenes to make it happen.

A statement issued by the club read: "These are exciting times for the club as we move forward as founder members of the West of Scotland Football League, and we are now fully committed to further progressing the club within the Scottish FA's pyramid system.

"We remain deeply proud of our rich and valued history as former members of the Scottish Junior Football Association, however, it was the unanimous decision of the members at our AGM that this was the correct path for our 125-year-old club to follow, as we move into what will hopefully be a prosperous future."
