Seychelles to reopen to tourists with no quarantine regardless of your vaccine status

The Seychelles is set to welcome back tourists later this month, with no need for quarantine regardless of whether a traveller has received a Covid-19 vaccine or not.

The East African archipelago is looking to reopen its borders from March 25.

It had previously reopened to vaccinated tourists, but now says that anyone can visit provided they can show proof of a negative Covid-19 test taken within 72 hours of travel.

According to the Seychelles News Agency, the country's Minister for Foreign Affairs and Tourism Sylvestre Radegonde revealed the news in a press conference, adding that visitors will also need to abide by the islands' health and safety measures such as wearing face masks, hand sanitising and maintaining social distancing.

Unfortunately for Brits, a trip to the Seychelles is currently off the cards. Not only is international travel currently banned as part of UK lockdowns (it's illegal to travel abroad for a holiday), but the Seychelles are currently one of the UK's 33 red list destinations meaning there is a separate ban on travel there.

This also means that anyone who does return from the Seychelles will be required to self-isolate for 10 days on arrival in a mandatory quarantine hotel. (Brits need to fork up the costs themselves which can start from £1,750).

Mr Radegonde said that the islands' authorities are currently in talks with British authorities regarding the red list status.

It's worth noting that currently international travel for Brits is not set to resume until at least May 17, and even then only for those in England as this date was set out in Boris Johnson's roadmap for easing lockdown restrictions in the country.

May 17 is the earliest date that travel abroad could restart, although this will be subject to a review by the government's Global Travel Taskforce in April.
