Sexual assault in North Lambton bedroom sparks strike force appeal

Police tape.

POLICE will address the media on Friday after a woman was sexually assaulted in a North Lambton home following a break and enter on Thursday afternoon.

Police said the 20-year-old was inside her Turana Parade bedroom when a man entered armed with a knife.

The man threatened her before she attempted to alert neighbours.

It is alleged he then grabbed and sexually assaulted her.

The man fled on foot a short time later.

The woman sought assistance from other residents and contacted police.

Detectives from Newcastle City police attended, establishing a crime scene.

They have formed Strike Force Oorin to examine the circumstances around the incident in conjunction with the State Crime Command's Child Abuse and Sex Crimes Squad.

The man is described as caucasian, aged in his early to mid 20s and with a solid, athletic build.

He had a broad nose, short black hair and was unshaven.

Investigators are urging anyone with CCTV or dashcam footage from Turana Parade, Lester Parade, Faulkner Crescent, Sunset Boulevard and University Drive between 1pm and 5pm on Thursday to come forward.

Anyone with information is also urged to call Newcastle police or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
