Sexpert shares 'adventurous' tips to spice up sex life and hails 'Lotus' sex position

A sexpert has shared some new adventurous ways and positions to spice up your sex life this Valentine’s Day.

Fifty percent of individuals say Valentine’s Day is even more significant this year, due to the disruption and stress the pandemic caused, a recent survey revealed.

With the day fast approaching, there is no better time to try out something new in the bedroom.

The survey also revealed that 43% plan on having sex twice and a further 12 percent hope to go for a third, on Monday - whilst it was revealed the most common time to have sex on Valentine’s Day was at 9pm.

With this in mind, sexual wellness company Lovehoney has partnered with a sex expert at TheSexConsultant Ness Cooper to share seven positions that will help promote intimacy, closeness and romantic passion this Valentine’s Day.

Seven adventurous sex positions to spice up your Valentine’s Day

Sofa CowGirl

While the penetrating partner is sitting, the one on top straddles them. This position allows for lots of kissing and closeness and lets arms wrap around bodies in an intimate hug as you thrust. Perfect for Netflix dates or romantic comedies.

Lotus

With one partner sitting cross-legged on the floor or the bed, the other sitting on top with wrapping legs around their body, this is another position that brings you close to your partner.

The lotus sex position also allows you to look into your partners' eyes, helping to release extra bonding hormones during penetration.

Missionary

Missionary is the position that offers maximum body contact. Not only does this stimulate the release of more hormones that make you feel close to your partner, but the warmth of the bodies rubbing together also leads to an awakening of more sense due to increased blood flow.

Non-penetrative sex

Sex isn’t all about penis to vagina penetration as mutual masturbation can be just as exciting, if not more.

Focus on getting to know your partner by exploring their body with your fingers and sex toys, such as vibrators between kissing and hugging.

Side Saddle

This sex position can be done with either one person lying down or both parties lying down together. The individual being penetrated sits on their partner side on. With their legs at 90 degress, it allows for deep penetration and lets hands wander in ways traditional face-on positions don’t offer.

Spooning

Spooning is the cuddle position where one person is penetrating from behind as you both lie side-on. This position leads to the release of lots of oxytocin and allows you to snuggle into your partner. Melting away into each other’s bodies promotes safety and trust.

Standing Sex

Standing sex positions where you’re face-on like missionary but upright can be wilder and much more passionate.

If you’re planning on getting adventures with standing sex position, particularly if you think you won’t make it to the bedroom once through the door after your Valentine’s Day date, plan ahead and make sure there’s a clear wall or place to lean against to offer extra support.

The survey spoke to 2000 adults aged between 18-64 in the UK and took place between the 14th and 17th of January 2022.
