A "sexist" sign banning dogs from the Ladies Swimming Shelter in Dollymount Strand has been removed.
Last week, Green Party Councillor Donna Cooney blasted Dublin City Council for having a "dig" at women because there was no corresponding sign at the men's shelter.
Dollymount Strand has become very popular with sea swimmers since the Covid-19 pandemic started in Ireland and some like to bring their pets with them, including Cllr Cooney.
She told Dublin Live: “I think the ban is heavy-handed. They could have put up a sign urging people to keep their dog on a lead or manage your dog.
“I was just upset because I have been bringing my dog with me for a swim. It is something she looks forward to but she doesn’t like the water herself. She is quite happy to sit there and watch me swim.”
Today, Cllr Cooney confirmed on Twitter that the sign had been removed.
She said: "Assistant area manager phoned me to say that the sign banning dogs on ladies bathing shelter is coming down today.
"Dogs are welcome again once they are as well behaved as we human swimmers are."
