Sex-text Tory MP Andrew Griffiths finds God and joins Pentecostal Church after scandal

Shamed Tory Andrew Griffiths has found God as he rebuilds his reputation following the Sunday Mirror’s sex-text exposé.

The MP, who has now been inducted into the Pentecostal Church, resigned from government last year over thousands of text messages sent to Imogen Treharne, 28, and a fellow barmaid.

He offered cash for sex images and outlined sordid fantasies.

Married father-of-one Mr Griffiths, 48, has told how a pastor helped him through a mental health crisis.

And last week he revealed he was attending the Renew Church in Uttoxeter, Staffs.

During a Commons debate on the persecution of Christians overseas, he urged Foreign Secretary Jeremy Hunt to continue policies that protect worshippers.

He said: “I am a Christian who has newly found faith. All too often I have heard the words, ‘Oh, they’re do-gooders’ and a Church of England vicar sent me an email about ‘Jesus freaks’.

“We have the levers to change behaviour and save lives. When people are being persecuted, murdered, stabbed and bullied simply for reading the Bible and worshipping Jesus, we must act.”

Pastor Matthew Murray has told how he helped Mr Griffiths “every day” following the sex text revelations – visiting him in hospital when he was at a particular low.

Mr Murray, 31, said former Small Business Minister Mr Griffiths “sounded desperate”, adding: “We’ve spoken daily, supporting him with pastoral care, advice and counsel.”

The Pentecostal Church places great importance on helping people to heal through making public declarations of sin.
