Stealing money from his mum cost a convicted sex offender a suspended jail term.
Lewis Metcalfe was staying with his mother in October last year, Bristol Crown Court heard.
When money went missing he initially denied taking it - but then said he had only borrowed it.
After she kicked him out he failed to register his whereabouts to police and was arrested.

Metcalfe, 21, of no fixed address, pleaded guilty to theft and breaching requirements of the Sex Offenders Register.
Judge Martin Picton handed him an eight-month prison sentence, suspended for 12 months. He told Metcalfe: "You've committed some serious offences. You just need to know if you commit any further offences you'll go to prison."
Caighli Taylor, prosecuting, said £40 to £70 went missing from the home of Metcalfe's mum when he was staying there.
Miss Taylor said: "Mr Metcalfe was the only person with access and he denied taking it.
"He then said he only borrowed it. She told him not to come back to the address."
The court heard that, following convictions for two sexual assaults in 2018, Metcalfe was ordered to notify his whereabout to police until November 2023.
But he failed to notify police he was homeless and was arrested.
The court also heard he breached a community order by failing to attend supervision appointments.
Lucy Taylor, defending, said her client was seeking accommodation and was very keen to get back into work.
She said: "He's extremely sorry for his actions.
"He wasn't thinking straight."
