Sex offender jailed for horror rape of homeless man in Dublin released and back on streets

A sex offender who was jailed for the rape of a homeless man in Dublin has been released and is back on Irish streets.

John Griffin, 50, served less than five years for the horrific rape of the man in a Dublin hostel in 2016.

The attacker, who has previous convictions of sexual assault in the 90s also, was released from Midlands Prison on Friday.

Just four-and-a-half years ago, Griffin's attack was heard in court where he said he just "f****** got the urge and did it".

He demanded the victim give him oral sex and when the victim refused, he anally penetrated him without the homeless man's consent.

The horrific assault took place despite Griffin admitting to Gardai that he knew the man "didn't like it at all".

Griffin, who was of no fixed abode at the time, pleaded guilty to two counts of sexual assault at the hostel in Dublin and was jailed for six years but served just four-and-a-half.

In 1991, Griffin received a five year sentence at the Central Criminal Court for buggery and sexual assault.
