Sex Education season 3 release date, plot changes, trailer and more

Hit Netflix show Sex Education is about to make its return to our screens - but there are a few changes viewers might notice.

The programme follows bout Otis Milburn, a socially awkward high school student who lives with his sex therapist mother, Jean.

In season 1 Otis and his friend Maeve Wiley set up a sex clinic at school to capitalise on his intuitive talent for sex advice.

In season 2, viewers watched Otis getting to grips with the world of dating as he started his a new relationship with his first girlfriend Ola.

But things weren't simple for Otis who was also juggling his now strained relationship with Maeve, who he has previously harboured feelings for.

Meanwhile, Moordale Secondary was in desperate need of better sex education at the school, with Jean stepping in to play a prominent role.

Asa Butterfield, who plays lead character Otis Milburn, recently revealed that season three will start with a time jump.

He told The Guardian: "There's a bit of a time-jump since the season two cliffhanger.

"Otis is back at school but he's got different things on his plate. He's grown up a bit and become slightly sassier. It's been fun to portray his newfound charisma. Don't worry, though, he's still tragically awkward too."

When is Sex Education season 3 coming out?

Production for Sex Education started last September following a delay due to the coronavirus pandemic.

Season two started in January, but Netflix's Chief Content Officer Ted Sarandos confirmed season three would arrive in the second half of 2021.

Asa Butterfield, Gillian Anderson, Ncuti Gatwa, and Emma Mackey will return to the show.

No trailer has been released for season three yet.

Changes made to Sex Education

Asa said there's still more to come with regards to Otis' relationship with Maeve (Emma Mackey).

He added: "People get quite cross when we tease them and stretch it out. Their relationship continues to develop in season three.

"We also explore why Otis was running his sex therapy clinic in the first place. Was it just to be close to Maeve or does he get fulfilment from helping people?"

Girls star Jemima Kirke has joined the cast of Sex Education season 3 as Moordale High's new headmistress, Hope.
