Starring as a sex therapist has some perks for Gillian Anderson – she has been inundated with gifts of adult toys.
The actress, who features in Netflix series Sex Education, says: “I’ve been sent more vibrators than I ever have, which isn’t a bad thing.”
Gillian, 51, was also previously bombarded with sex toys when Dana Scully, her character in sci-fi show The X-Files, was revealed to have a “personal massager” under her bed.
So it must be a pretty impressive quantity coming her way now.
Gillian says her role in comedy drama Sex Education has had other effects, too.
She reckons it has “somehow given me licence to be inappropriate and meddle a bit too much” in her kids’ lives – exactly the sort of thing her character does.
Gillian adds: “Cut to me being the one who blurts out around the dinner table about my son’s growing moustache...
“Fortunately, people don’t ask me [for] sex advice on the street.” That’s a relief.

Your mission, Thandie Newton, if you choose to accept it, is to watch a spot erupting on Tom Cruise’s face while filming Mission: Impossible 2.
She recalled that “his metabolism was so fierce” that a slight red mark on his nose at the beginning of a night filming was a spot by the end.
She tells Vulture: “He had a big whitehead where that red dot was, It would take anyone else 48 hours to manifest a zit.”
This week Tom was allowed to fly here to film Mission: Impossible 7 without quarantining.
Hopefully, his immune system is just as fierce.
