Sex Education is renewed for a fourth season - everything we know so far

Netflix has announced that the hit series Sex Education will be returning for a fourth season, after a successful third season full of twists and turns - but never short of laughter.

In a tweet, Netflix posted a 15 second video simply announcing with subtitles reading “Breaking News: Sex Education to return for Season 4”.

Actor Gillian Anderson, who plays Dr. Jean Milburn on the show, confirmed the exciting news on her Instagram account, by posting a selfie with fellow co-stars Asa Butterfield (Otis), Patricia Allison (Ola), Mikael Persbrandt (Jakob) and Alistair Petrie (Mr Groff).

The caption read: "I guess we’ll be seeing you for S4!! @sexeducation" alongside aubergine emojis.

In case you didn’t know what the show was about, of course.

So what should Sex Education fans expect in the fourth season?

To recap, since the final episode of season 3 ending with (spoiler alert) all of the sixth form students being told that the school’s investors have pulled their funding and that Moordale will be shut down.

This means our favourite students will have to search for a new school by the end of the term to ensure they will be able to attend university.

This definitely leaves a plethora of issues to be revised in the upcoming season, as well as other plotlines such as:

Hope Haddon, the head teacher we love to hate who has suddenly disappeared, Maeve's headed off to the US, leaving Otis (and all of us hopeless romantics) wondering where their relationship stands, and Eric finally dumping Adam.

In an interview with Glamour Magazine, Laurie Nunn, the show's creator, said: “I do sometimes get a bit scared when we leave on a really big cliff-hanger, and then I think, Oh no, what if we don't get to continue this storyline?

“What if series three ends and Maeve goes to America and then we never see these characters again?

“That would be quite heartbreaking, but I think you've got to take the risk and try to leave people wanting more.”

There is no confirmation for a release date for Season 4 yet and we will have to simply be patient until a trailer at least hits the internet.

So while you wait, here’s an iconic Eric Effiong video to remind the kids that he’s truly the real main character of Sex Education.
