Sex could help you stay hayfever-free this summer

Barbecues, long-sunny evenings, drinks in beer gardens, there's plenty to look forward to as summer rolls around the corner. But for many hayfever suffers, it also brings itchy eyes, runny noses, and a persistent sneeze.

But fear not, because a scientists think they could have found a rather quirky solution to hayfever symptoms. Sex.

According to OK!, sexual healing could be key to staying hayfever free this summer. That's because scientists in Iran discovered a link between reproductive system and the nasal system, and their work was published in a medical journal called Medical Hypotheses.

They found that sex constricts blood vessels in the nose, causing it to unblock, and the eyes, meaning they stop watering. And so, Sina Zarrintan, one of the neurologists, said it could be a way of treating symptoms, enjoyably.

He said: "It can be done from time to time to alleviate the congestion and the patient can adjust the number of intercourses depending on the severity of the symptoms."

It is thought to be more helpful for men as the relief was specifically linked to ejaculation. However, another scientist also at Tabriz Medical University, said: “There are some limitations in using ejaculation as a treatment of nasal congestion, such as not being applicable out of home and not having any sex partner."

Of course there is also the issue of whether people suffering badly from hay fever will want to get frisky between the sheets. Dr Michael Benninger added to Lad Bible: “I usually recommend beginning allergy treatment with non-sedating antihistamines or an intranasal steroid two to three weeks before their prime allergy season. The earlier that allergies are treated, the less difficulty people will have during the allergy season."
