A serial sex offender once jailed for trying to lure a ten-year-old girl into a paedophile ring has died in prison.
Alistair Findlay, 61, passed away on Friday after taking ill at Barlinnie Prison in Glasgow.
He was two years into a life sentence with a minimum of four-and-a-half years.
It’s understood Findlay - described by cops as an “odious individual” - died of natural causes.
A Scottish Prison Service spokesman said: “We can confirm that there was a death in custody at HMP Barlinnie.
“It’s likely that a fatal accident inquiry will take place in due course.”
Findlay was jailed in June 2019 after an investigation into abuse at a former children’s home.
A court heard how he preyed on five vulnerable youngsters at a residential home in Glasgow in the 1970s and 1980s.
At the High Court in Glasgow, perverted Findlay was given a lifelong restriction order along with the minimum jail term.
Findlay was initially prosecuted - and then cleared - in 1984, following allegations made by residents of the Park Lodge children’s home in Glasgow’s Newlands.
In 2018 police launched a new investigation into abuse claims at the home, which closed in 2008.
He was found guilty of seven charges after a trial.
Twisted Findlay was jailed for six years in 1999 for trying to lure a ten-year-old girl into a paedophile ring.
He was sentenced to three years for having indecent images of children in 2004.
In 2016 he was imprisoned for two years for abusing boys during swimming lessons.
A Police Scotland spokesperson told the Daily Record: "Around 5pm on Friday, February 12 officers were made aware of the death of a 61-year-old man in HMP Barlinnie.
"A post mortem examination will be carried out in due course however the death is not being treated as suspicious. A report will be submitted to the Procurator Fiscal.”
