Sex attacker pounces on teenage girl walking on Airdrie cycle path in broad daylight

Police are appealing for information after an 18-year-old woman was sexually assaulted by a man in Airdrie.

The woman was walking on the cycle path between Cairnhill Road and Calderbank Road at around 3.25pm yesterday when the incident took place.

A man approached her from the Cairnhill Road area and sexually assaulted her. She was unhurt by the incident and didn’t require medical treatment, but was very distressed.

Detective Sergeant Mark Nelson of CID at Coatbridge Police Station said : “The victim was very upset by the actions of the man. He is described as 20-30 years old, 5’3” to 5’4 inches tall, of slim build, with dark eyebrows.

"He wearing a dark grey to charcoal coloured light weight puffa jacket, very light or pale grey jogging bottoms which were tucked into his black socks. He was also wearing black trainers and a bright orange snood covering his face.

“The area is popular with dog walkers and I would appeal to anyone who was in the area at the time to come forward.

“Anyone who has information that will assist this investigation is asked to contact us through 101 quoting reference number 2119 of Tuesday, 12 January. Alternatively Crimestoppers can be contacted on 0800 555 111, where anonymity can be maintained.”
