Sex and the City's Steve Brady sparks rise in requests for hearing aids after ‘And Just Like That’

Sex and the City’s spin off series ‘And Just Like That’ has sparked a rise in requests for hearing aids.

Hearing loss has been at the forefront of the series as Miranda Hobbes frequently reminds her husband Steve to wear his hearing aids.

And Hearing Aid experts Hidden Hearing have revealed that they have seen a 26% increase in requests for appointments since the series hit screens on 9 December.

“Since the series began airing in Ireland and the UK, we have experienced a massive increase in hearing test appointments,” Dolores Madden, Marketing Director for Hidden Hearing and a trained audiologist said.

“It’s really important for people to know that there is no shame in needing hearing aids and everyone should be attending regular hearing checks, regardless of age,” Madden added.

“Some of our highest search demographic is the 35-44 age group, hearing loss can impact anyone.”

The creative team behind the Sex and the City revival have been hit with criticism over their efforts to reflect the realities of aging.

But for David Eigenberg, who plays Steve Brady, his hearing loss storyline was a case of art imitating life and was inspired by his own experience.

The writers behind the HBO Max series said Eigenberg recently got hearing aids, much like his character on the series.

Screenwriters Julie Rottenberg and Elisa Zuritsky told Vanity Fair: “When [showrunner] Michael Patrick [King] reconnected with David Eigenberg about the show, the very first thing that David said was, ‘I got hearing aids.’ It was literally what he led with.

“Everyone on the show, every single person, loves David Eigenberg as a human being,” Zuritsky continued.

“We love him as an actor. We love Steve. We are really invested in the Steve-ness of him. “He’s so full of life, and the Steves out there are good guys.”
