Sevilla spy Ianis Hagi transfer opportunity as 'renewed interest' in Rangers star sparked by two key factors

Sevilla have renewed their interest in Ianis Hagi - according to a report in Spain.

The playmaker's loan spell at Rangers from Genk is due to expire at the end of May but the Ibrox club retain first option to sign him permanently.

However, that hasn't stopped rumours swirling across the continent since January, ensuring Hagi was linked with several high profile sides.

No decision has yet been reached on the Romanian's future amid the increased uncertainty caused by the coronavirus pandemic.

But, in Spain, AS report Sevilla's attention has been drawn by two factors - Hagi's age and the opportunity to potentially sign him on the cheap, it's believed he's valued at around £4million.

The La Liga side were credited with an interest in the 21-year-old last summer, with the move said to be backed by his father, Romanian icon Gheorghe Hagi.

Hagi Jnr admitted earlier in May that playing in Spain's top-flight is one of his primary ambitions, but that his immediate focus remained with Rangers.

He said: "At the moment, my only focus is on the Scottish league and to be ready for that when it returns.

"My future is taken care of by my agents.

"At Rangers under  Steven Gerrard, it's impossible to single out just one thing that I've learned about from him. I learn something new from him every day.

"I consider myself lucky to be coached by one of the best players in the history of football.

"The best piece of advice my father gave me was ambition makes the difference.

"And I love the  La Liga  style of play and I see myself playing there one day.

"I don't know about comparisons with my father. I only know one thing about myself - I want to win. When I am retired, perhaps we can compare careers then."
