Sevilla fail to do Arsenal a favour as two-goal lead slips in Champions League defeat to PSV

Arsenal were denied the chance to qualify for the Champions League last-16 without kicking a ball on Wednesday night.

RC Lens headed to north London hoping to repeat their win over the Gunners earlier in the group stage but it has otherwise been a comfortable group stage for Mikel Arteta's men.

Going into matchday five, Arsenal sat pretty on nine points ahead of Lens and PSV Eindhoven on five, with Sevilla further back on two points.

Sevilla hosted PSV in the early kick-off and let a two-goal lead slip to lose 3-2, which boosted the Dutch side's qualification hopes and also failed to send Arsenal through.

Only a point is needed against Lens for the Premier League side to qualify and a win will secure top spot in Group B with a seeding in next month's draw.

Sergio Ramos rose highest to head home a free-kick in the first half in Andalusia as the veteran defender notched the 10,000th goal in Champions League history since the competition's 1992 rebrand.

A superb ball over the top sent Youssef En-Nesyri through to make it 2-0 to Sevilla in the second half.

However, Lucas Ocampos' rash challenge earned a red card with 25 minutes left to play and PSV immediately hit back through Ismael Saibari.

Nemanja Gudelj was then helpless to avoid putting through his own net late on to secure the Dutch side a huge point.

A stunning comeback was completed in stoppage time when Ricardo Pepi's arrowed header broke Sevilla hearts.

PSV host Arsenal next month while Sevilla travel to France to face Lens.
