Sevilla chief Monchi sends Tottenham Sergio Reguilon message after £28m transfer

Sevilla sporting director Monchi has given a glowing review of new Tottenham star Sergio Reguilon.

Spurs snapped up Reguilon for just shy of £28million from Real Madrid this summer, Jose Mourinho and Daniel Levy making a statement in the summer window, wrapping up a loan deal for Gareth Bale at the same time.

Reguilon spent last season on loan with Sevilla, winning the Europa League with the Spanish giants before briefly returning to Real Madrid ahead of his Spurs move.

And after watching Reguilon impress for Sevilla last season, famed club chief Monchi has given his verdict on the defender following his move to North London.

“He is a great player,” Monchi told the Telegraph. “Last year he was a very, very important footballer.

"I believe that he grew a lot with us, because until he arrived at Sevilla he had not enjoyed continuity at an elite level.

"I don’t know what will happen in England, because it is another footballing context, but he has everything to succeed.”

Reguilon spent 15 years at Real Madrid in all, though he only ever managed 14 senior league appearances for the first team.

The 23-year-old made his Spurs debut against Chelsea in the Carabao Cup on Tuesday night, playing 90 minutes as Mourinho's men drew 1-1 before winning on penalties.
