Severnshed sold off after company behind restaurant falls into administration

The company behind Severnshed restaurant has fallen into administration.

Organic Venturers, which trades under the name Severnshed in Bristol, appointed Stephen Paul Grant and Matthew John Waghorn of Wilkins Kennedy as joint administrators on January 20, 2020.

Andy Vine, managing director of Coal Kitchen (the sister business to Severnshed), says the restaurant has been sold off as part of a company restructure and will continue to operate as usual.

He explained: "Severnshed has been purchased as part of a company restructure and has carried on trading without interruption.

“[Chef] Ross Gibbens, Ben Porter and their whole team are still offering the same great food, drink and warm hospitality."

The director of Organic Venturers is named on companies house as Sumit Chadha.

Chadha is also named on the government website as the owner of Charterhouse Leisure - a licensed restaurants business which operates Coal Grill & Bar in Cabot Circus.

Charterhouse Leisure has also fallen into administration but Coal Grill & Bar in Bristol will remain open after being sold, according to Bristol Live's sister site Business Live.

The news follows a bumpy couple of years for Severnshed, which made the headlines in 2018 when a diner posted a scathing review on TripAdvisor saying she had been charged £13 for a £1.15 Asda own-brand Camembert cheese still in its wrapper.

Top chef Ross Gibbens was later brought in to transform the restaurant back into a thriving independent eatery for which it is known.
