Severn Trent statement on hosepipes and sprinklers amid high demand in heatwave

Severn Trent has issued a plea to its customers amid an "incredibly high" demand for water in Nottinghamshire.

The last few days have seen extremely high temperatures in the county and the rest of the UK and this has led to an increase in demand, according to the water provider.

Severn Trent are now asking people not to use jet washers, sprinklers and hoses for the next couple of days - particularly between 4pm and 9pm.

In a text message sent to customers on Thursday, July 23, they explained the current situation and thanked customers for their co-operation.

The message read: "Thanks so much for all of your help yesterday. The sun is still shining, and we are still seeing an incredibly high demand for water.

"We are still asking everyone to do their bit by not using sprinklers, jet washers and hoses for the next couple of days, particularly between 4pm-9pm.

"It looks like rain is on the way over the weekend. Thank you so much, Severn Trent."

There is a weather warning for rain this weekend across Nottinghamshire which has been issued by the Met Office.

The yellow weather warning is in place from Saturday July 24 at midnight Friday and will last until midnight Sunday night July 25.
