Severe Victoria Line delays after reports of fire at Tottenham Hale

A train line ground to a halt after the emergency services rushed to reports of a fire.

At around  5pm the London Fire Brigade began investigating a strong smell of smoke at Tottenham Hale station.

The presence of numerous fire fighters and fire trucks caused serious delays on the line.

There was no service between Seven Sisters and Walthamstow Central and there are severe delays on the rest of the line.

The knock on effect of part of the line being shut down is being felt across the Victoria Line.

A Tweet from the official Victoria Line account read: "I'm sorry that it is slow going on the line at the moment.

"We have trains at every platform across the line so they'll be moving up one by one, while fire alert is investigated."

The frustration was palpable amongst those looking forward to getting home to enjoy the late summer sunshine.

For some the delays were just another in a long line of disappointments.

For one man, not being able to get on the Tube meant a missing a game of rounders with his friends.

He posted: "Really annoyed beyond reasonable measure to miss this, thanks Victoria Line, thanks.

"45 minutes to go from Warren Street to Tottenham Hale. Had to bail for sanity but hoping another time works."

Tickets bought for the underground will be accepted on TfL buses and on any reasonable route on the Overground.

At around 6.45pm the line began moving again.
