The storms affected Maroochydore, Coolangatta, Strathpine, Redcliffe, Caloundra and Gympie at about 7:00pm and Cleveland, Noosa Heads and the area northwest of Gympie at about 7:30pm..

By 8:30pm the band of storms had moved past the coastline and BOM cancelled its storm warning, but Energex was reporting over 13,000 homes without power in south-east Queensland.

"The immediate threat of severe thunderstorms has passed, but the situation will continue to be monitored and further warnings will be issued if necessary," BOM reported.
