The severe thunderstorm warning for the ACT has been downgraded.
It was issued for the ACT at 12.45pm on Friday, suggesting damaging winds and large hailstones could hit the territory within hours.
These thunderstorms were predicted to move southeast and were forecast to impact northern parts of ACT on Friday afternoon, the ESA said.
The ACT was no longer in the warning in the 4.31pm update, which showed the storm heading north through Sydney.
Storms shook the Canberra region on Thursday night, after the Bureau of Meteorology (BoM) issued a severe thunderstorm warning for damaging winds and heavy rainfall.
The ACT has received more than 70mm of rain since Wednesday morning.
ACT State Emergency Service volunteers received more than 35 requests for assistance, and Coppins Crossing has been closed until further notice due to the inclement weather.
There is still a risk of localised flooding and storm damage, the ESA has warned.
How to prepare for a thunderstorm
- Move your car under cover or away from trees.
- Secure or put away loose items around your house, yard and balcony.
- Keep clear of creeks and storm drains.
- Stay indoors away from windows, and keep children and pets indoors as well.
- Keep at least 8 metres away from fallen power lines or objects that may be energised, such as fences.
