SEVERE disruption has hit cross-Border rail services after a landslip forced the closure of the West Coast Main Line in both directions.
The key train route, which connects Glasgow and London, was hit by the landslip near Beattock in Dumfries and Galloway amid heavy rain and a yellow weather warning covering the area.
The landslip is being looked at by “specialist geotechnical engineers”, Network Rail said.
Avanti West Coast, which operates trains on the line, told people: “Do not travel north of Preston.”
A statement said: “We're advising customers not to travel north of Preston for the remainder of the day due to a landslip between Lockerbie and Carstairs which is blocking all lines.
“If you are due to travel between Preston and Glasgow/Edinburgh then your existing ticket can be used on any Avanti West Coast service via the same route until the end of service tomorrow, Saturday 22 February.”
