Severe flooding closes Ayrshire road as specialist teams work to drain water

Major flooding has closed an Ayrshire road today.

The A78 at Seamill has been submerged in water with specialist teams now working to reopen the road.

A diversion is currently in place with southbound traffic following the A760 Dalry Road (Haylie Brae) then the B784 to Swinlees Road via the B780 to Chapelhall roundabout to rejoin the A78.

The northbound diversion runs in the opposite direction.

Amey SW Trunk Roads tweeted this afternoon to say they are currently trying to drain water from the road.

They said: "#A78 @ Seamill our operators are working at locus to clear flood. Starting to recede now after some hard work from our team #gettingthere @trafficscotland."
