'Severe' disruption to Ayrshire trains again this weekend – check if your journey is affected

More 'severe' disruption will hit Ayrshire rail services again this weekend.

ScotRail services running from Ayr to Glasgow and Glasgow to Largs will be impacted as a result of industrial action by the Railway Maritime and Transport workers' union (RMT).

There will be no services at all between Kilmarnock and Glasgow this Sunday, May 16.

Transport bosses are braced for another Sunday of limited services after a fortnight of action.

It comes as people head out to beer gardens and non-essential shops now lockdown restrictions have eased.

Customers have been advised to plan ahead before travelling.

The union is going on strike in a “long-running fight for equality and justice over enhanced payments for rest day working”, with ScotRail workers looking to force a 50 per cent increase in overtime payments.

ScotRail say a number of key routes will have the vast majority of their services cancelled, causing a severe impact on customers as the country eases out of lockdown.

More action is expected for the next four weeks.

ScotRail management and support have stepped in to cover for ticket examiners in order to keep trains moving over the past few weeks.

David Simpson, ScotRail Operations Director, said: “The continuing strike action by the RMT union will have a significant impact on customers who are returning to the railway as lockdown eases. "

“We will do everything we can to minimise the consequences of this action, but recognise that customers will potentially have to find alternative travel solutions as a result of this strike.”
