'Severe difficulties' in school transport after bus drivers test positive for Covid

School transport in Rhondda Cynon Taf continues to be under pressure as more bus drivers have tested positive for Covid-19.

More than a week ago Rhondda Cynon Taf County Borough Council warned it was facing difficulties in providing sufficient school transport, with large numbers of drivers and assistant staff unable to work due to Covid self-isolations.

On Monday, September 27, the council released an update stating there will be further disruption to travel.

The statement read: "Due to drivers and passenger assistants testing positive for Covid-19, severe difficulties continue to be experienced in running school transport as scheduled.

"Every endeavour will be taken to minimise delays for learners each morning. However, if their bus does not turn up on time, learners are advised to wait at the stop and a bus will be diverted to cover their service as quickly as possible.

"Please be aware that some services may be operated by a different operator, and that route cards will not necessarily be displayed.

"The council apologises for the inconvenience caused and appreciates your understanding and support during this difficult period."
