Severe delays on M5 after fault is reported

  • Drivers have been warned of continued delays on the M5 following closures due to “a defect with overhead power lines.”
  • According to a National Highways update on X , the motorway “in Somerset has reopened in both directions between J22 Highbridge and J23 Puriton”.
  • It added: “There are delays of 160 minutes and 10 miles of congestion in both directions. This will begin to ease. Have a safe onward journey.”
  • National Highways had advised drivers to “allow extra journey time” or to “re-route or even delay your journey”.
  • The agency also previously told drivers heading southbound “to follow the solid diamond symbol on road signs”, while northbound users were “advised to follow the solid circle symbol”.
