‘Severance’ season 3 is going to look a bit different

The Apple TV+ series Severance has become a fan favorite throughout its first two seasons. Part of that comes from our love for Adam Scott but the series also shines through its direction and aesthetic choices. But season 3 might look different because Ben Stiller won’t be directing.

The comedian and director taking on the series was a shock when it started. For the most part, Stiller’s career has consisted of some of the most iconic comedies but the mystery and more serious nature of Severance was a bit of a departure for him. But the series proved that Stiller is one of our more interesting directors. For season 3 though, he will be elsewhere and won’t be as involved.

During a conversation with The Los Angeles Times, Stiller revealed that he is still working with creator Dan Erickson and the writing staff of the series to plan season 3 so that he can go to film the new Meet the Parents film, titled Focker In Law. “These things take time to come together,” Stiller told the publication, “and the older you get, the more you realize that you only have so much time.”

While Stiller didn’t direct every episode of the show, he did do a lot of the two seasons and so it will be a change for the show as a whole. But his comments do make it seem as if he is going to still be involved in the show, even if he isn’t behind the camera.

Later in the interview, Severance star Adam Scott shared a story about filming with Stiller and John Turturro. “If we’re working, you always know it’s game day because Ben and John Turturro will be gathered around a phone in between takes,” Scott told the outlet. “It’s deeply important. I’m actually envious of their passion.”
