The Food Safety Authority of Ireland (FSAI) has issued a number of product recalls over the last 24 hours for CBD products, sporting nutrition and a brand of taquitos.
The first recall affects Decathlon stores, after a list of batches associated with Aptonia Sport food products were found to have unauthorised pesticide ethylene oxide.
This pesticide is not permitted for use in food sold in the EU, according to the FSAI, but is approved by a number of other countries.
A statement explained: “Although the consumption of the contaminated product does not pose an acute risk to health, there is an increased risk if there is the continued consumption of contaminated food over a long period of time.
“Therefore, exposure to this substance needs to be minimised. Point-of-sale recall notices will be displayed in stores supplied with the implicated batches.”
The batches associated with this recall are as follows:
Lidl Ireland has had to recall batches of their El Tequito Taquitos Spicy Cheese & Chicken, Taquitos Chicken Fajita and Taquitos Spicy Cheese & Beef (pack size: 640g) because some stores sold them as chilled instead of frozen due to a supply chain error.
A statement said: “Given this error, the best-before date printed on the pack is not valid for the chilled products and therefore, they should not be consumed.
“Point-of-sale recall notices are displayed in stores supplied with the affected products which includes some stores within Leinster and County Tipperary.”
The stores included in this recall can be found here.
A vast number of CBD Hempture products have been recalled because they were processes in an establishment where activity has not been notified to the competent authority.
The statement on this recall said: “The products have been processed outside the scope of the company’s registration.
“No distribution or traceability information for the implicated products could be obtained.
“The Hempture products listed below also contain CO2-extracted or concentrated CBD which is an unauthorised novel food.”
The full list of recalled products is below:
Finally, a number of ‘Herb the the Gods’ products have been recalled after they were found to contain or consist of plants or plant material that are unauthorised novel foods in the EU and should not be on the market without authorisation.
The FSAI warned: “These plants are associated with potentially harmful side effects.
“The Hempture pure crystallised form of CBD is an unauthorised novel food that should not be on the EU market, the safety of which for consumers has not been assessed.”
