'Several thousand' chickens dead as massive fire rips through Fife poultry farm

'Several thousand' chickens sadly died after a horror fire ripped through a poultry farm in Fife.

Emergency services were called to the blaze in Crossford near Dunfermline around 1.25pm on Friday January 3.

Fire crews managed to extinguish the inferno before finding a huge number of birds had perished in their coop.

Cops are not treating the fire as suspicious.

A Scottish Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson said: "Police were called to reports of an extensive fire at a poultry farm in the Crossford area of Fife around 1.25pm on Friday, 3 January, 2020.

“The fire was extinguished however several thousand chickens were found to be dead within a shed.

“After extensive enquiries it has been established that there does not appear to be any suspicious circumstances with regard to the fire.

“We would like to thank the public for their assistance.”
