Several people spoken to by gardai after being caught sunbathing at beach in Co Galway

Several people were spoken to by gardai after being caught sunbathing on an Irish beach.

Officers received a report of a man on Silver Beach in Co Galway shortly after 3pm on Friday, April 24.

However, when they attended the scene they found "a number of individuals" at the beach in the village of Barna.

Gardai spoke to the group regarding the Covid-19 lockdown regulations, which state that no non-essential journeys should be taken beyond 2km from home.

It is understood that all of those involved immediately left the area.

A garda spokesman said: "Gardaí responded to a report of a man sunbathing in Silver Beach, Barna, Co Galway at 3.17pm on Friday April 24, 2020.

"Gardaí attended and found a number of individuals present.

"All were spoken to and were advised of their responsibilities under Covid-19 guidelines. All left the area."
