Several people injured in M66 crash between Bury and Ramsbottom

Emergency services were rushed to the M66 following a crash between two cars.

The incident happened on the northbound carriageway between junction 2 (A58 Rochdale Road/Bury) and junction 1 (A56 Walmersley Road/Ramsbottom).

Police, firefighters, two ambulances, and a rapid response vehicle attended the scene and a lane of the motorway was closed.

A North West Ambulance Service spokesman confirmed that they have reports of five casualties, including a woman with facial injuries and a man with an arm injury.

None of the injuries are deemed to be serious.

A North West Motorway Police spokesman confirmed that the crash was between two cars and that one vehicle was smoking but a passing car had a fire extinguisher.

A Greater Manchester Police Spokesman added: "Officers were called around 4.30pm today (Friday 20 November 2020) to a report of multiple vehicles involved in collision on the M66, between junction one and two.

"Emergency services are in attendance."

According to traffic monitoring website Inrix, the road reopened at 6.30pm.
