Five people have been taken to hospital after a stabbing attack at a Dunedin supermarket, on New Zealand's South Island.
St John have confirmed three people have critical injuries and another two have been moderately injured in the afternoon attack.
All were at hospital within minutes of St John being notified, about 2:30pm (NZST) on Monday.
News outlet Stuff reports armed police attended the scene. Police said in a statement that one person was taken into custody.
Radio NZ reports the attack took place at the Countdown Dunedin Central, just metres from the iconic Dunedin Railway Station and the city's heart, the Octagon.
Countdown spokeswoman Kiri Hannafin said two of the injured were employees.
Witnesses told Stuff the attacker was "quite a messy little fellow" with curly hair.
