Several people get into difficulty in treacherous water conditions at Forty Foot in Dun Laoghaire, Dublin

The Irish Coast Guard has issued a warning to swimmers after a number of people got into difficulty in treacherous water conditions this morning.

Several ambulances and the Rescue 116 helicopter raced into action when two swimmers go into difficulty at the Forty Foot in Dun Laoghaire.

Gardai also attended the scene to warn people about hazardous swimming conditions caused by spring high tides, Dublin Live reports.

A garda spokesman told Dublin Live: "The Coast Guard carried out an operation to rescue two swimmers who had gotten into difficulty swimming at the Forty Foot earlier today.

"A Garda Patrol attended the area to advise swimmers of potential hazard due to unfavourable swimming conditions."

Luckily the two swimmers were unharmed following their rescue.

A short time later the Coast Guard helicopter sprang into action again after a swimmer found themselves in deep water at Low Rock off the coast of Malahide.

The swimmer was fortunately able to get themselves back into shallow water without the need for rescuers to intervene.

The Coast Guard took to social media to warn swimmers about high tides this weekend.

They said: "Forty foot and our coast line today, currently strong winds and high spring tides are making it very difficult for swimmers, with high tides being especially bad."

High tides will hit again this evening from 8:30pm to 12:45am on Sunday morning and again from 9:15pm on Sunday to 1:30am on Monday morning.
