Several Monklands businesses take home prizes at Scottish retail awards night

Monklands had three winners at last week’s Scottish independent retail awards ceremony.

Coatbridge business Mad Batter won the hotly-contested bakery of the year title, taking both the south-west regional title and then the overall national award.

The Coatbank Street bakery and coffee shop was opened in 2017 by Graeme Neil and David Frame, and their range of creative cakes have become firm favourites with customers and the local restaurants they supply.

Fellow Coatbridge company Jigsaw Blinds, located at Dunure Street in Kirkshaws, won the title of soft furnishing supplier of the year at the same awards ceremony in Glasgow.

And Overdrive, of Alexander Street in Airdrie, was named automobile accessories provider of the year at the eighth annual ceremony, which recognised “the contributions of the country’s independent retailers to the economy [and] the business acumen and entrepreneurial spirit of individuals who own smaller chains”.
