Several million American broadband subscribers face the prospect of getting up one morning to find their umbilical Internet connection has been given the chop. In fact, the worst has just happened to more than 750,000 AT&T users. They were getting their service from @Home, which is now in Chapter 11 (part of bankruptcy provisions that provides protection from creditors). @Home is renogiating its money-losing contracts, and has not been able to agree a new deal with AT&T, which is now rushing to provide its subcribers with an alternative service.
