Several men wanted over Melbourne protests

Several men are being sought by Victoria Police in connection with anti-lockdown protests last month (AAP)

Several men are wanted by police over a number of incidents during anti-vaccine protests in Melbourne last month, including for spitting on someone through their car window.

Hundreds took to Melbourne's streets over several days in September, after what began as construction workers protesting the vaccine mandate turned into wider unrest.

Victoria Police has created a new Prime Taskforce to investigate criminal incidents at the protests.

Detectives want to speak to five men over assaults on police, criminal damage to police vehicles and incitement at a protest in Richmond on September 18.

Another man is wanted after he was seen spitting on a member of the public through a car window, while they were sitting in their vehicle on the West Gate Bridge on September 21.

A photo released by police shows the man, wearing an orange T-shirt, a backpack, work boots and tan shorts, leaning over as if he is about to spit on someone.

Several other men are sought over more damage to police cars in Carlton on September 21.
