Several Giants are long-shots to win postseason awards

The New York Giants haven’t won many individual postseason awards in their recent history. Last year, running back Saquon Barkley was named Offensive Rookie of the Year — the only other Giant player other than Odell Beckham Jr. (2014) to win the award.

The Giants have had just one player named NFL MVP and Defensive Rookie of the Year. That was Lawrence Taylor, who took home rookie honors in 1981 and the MVP in 1986.

Taylor was also named the NFL Defensive Player of the year three times (’81, ’82 and ’86) and Michael Strahan won it once (2001). The Giants have never had a player named the NFL Offensive Player of the Year.

The 2019 award season looks like it will be devoid of Giants once again as oddsmakers have made almost all of their eligible players long shots to win any hardware.

Based on odds released by BetOnline.ag, the eligible Giants players are up against it to win any awards this year, barring some miracle comeback or breakthrough.

For the regular season NFL MVP, Barkley is 50/1 and quarterback Eli Manning is 100/1. Former Giant Beckham is 80/1. The favorite is last year’s winner, Kansas City quarterback Patrick Mahomes at 6/1 followed by Aaron Rodgers, Andrew Luck and Carson Wentz all at 9/1.

The NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year field is headed by the top pick in the draft, Arizona quarterback Kyler Murray, followed by Washington quarterback Dwayne Haskins and Rams running back Darrell Henderson at 7/1. Giants quarterback Daniel Jones is listed at 33/1.

As for NFL Defensive Rookie of the Year, 49ers defensive end Nick Bosa is the top choice at 5/1 followed by Jacksonville edge rusher Josh Allen at 7/1 and linebacker Devin White of Tampa Bay at 8/1. The Giants’ two first round picks — defensive tackle Dexter Lawrence and cornerback Deandre Baker — are listed at 33/1 and 28/1 respectively.
