Several feared dead after private jet crashes and bursts into flames at US airport

Multiple people have thought to have died after a private jet crashed at an airport in America.

A private plane took off from an airport in North Carolina before suddenly turning back and trying to land, WCNC reported.

Terrifying images have emerged of a plane on fire billowing smoke next to the runway. It has not been confirmed if there have been any casualties.

The vessel is a Cessina Citation plane, which which is owned by a private North Carolina Company. It’s not known how many people were onboard yet, but the plane can host between eight and 10 passengers.

It crashed close to a runway at Statesville Regional Airport, North Carolina, on Thursday (December 18) at 10:15am.

Terrifying images have emerged of a plane on fire billowing smoke next to the runway.

Iredell County Sherif told The Independent that an investigation is underway.

Chief deputy William Hamby said: “The investigation will be conducted by the North Carolina Highway Patrol and the FAA. Our agency was first on scene and reported back the initial information.”

The airport said in a statement on Facebook: “We can confirm there has been an aircraft incident at the Statesville Regional Airport.

“At approximately 10:15am, an aircraft crashed while landing. Federal Aviation Administration is en route and will investigate the incident.

“No further details are available at this time.”
