Several drivers caught breaking rules as strict speed checks carried out across East Lothian

A number of drivers have been stopped on roads around East Lothian as police carry out strict speed patrols in the area.

Officers with speed guns have been out and about checking motorists have been sticking to rules across on some of the busiest routes. This activity is expected to continue in the coming days and weeks.

East Lothian Police told on Saturday how they were out conducting checks in Longniddry and Gullane. A number of people were given warnings while one person was reported.

The following day officers were back out again and during these checks a further three drivers were arrested and charged with drink driving, two were charged with speeding and an additional three vehicles were seized.

Earlier this month Edinburgh Live reported how police were urging an end to dangerous driving after serious incidents in Cramond and on the city bypass.

On the morning of 14 April three men and three women were charged for driving at speeds of up to 71mph in the 40mph zone on the A90 at Cramond.

A man was later charged for driving at 90mph on the City Bypass.
