Several Bolton pubs and bars shut following positive coronavirus tests

A number of bars and pubs in Bolton have been forced to shut this weekend due to positive coronavirus cases.

At least five businesses have closed in recent days due to staff or customers testing positive.

The Alma Inn, in Bradshawgate in Bolton town centre, revealed on its Facebook page on Saturday that it had closed for a deep clean after a customer who visited the pub tested positive for the virus.

The pub, which is a popular music venue, remains closed until further notice.

Meanwhile, The Balmoral, which is also in Bradshawgate, closed on Friday for a deep clean but has since reopened.

Yesterday, bosses at another town centre boozer, The Venue Bar, in Churchgate, announced that the pub would be shut throughout the weekend after a member of staff became infected.

Businesses in Astley Bridge, several miles north of the town centre, have also had to take action in response to positive coronavirus tests.

Astley Bridge Conservative Club shut earlier this week after a member of the bar staff and one of its stewards both tested positive.

In a Facebook post on Saturday, the club announced that it would remain closed for now.

Bank Top Brewery Tap, in nearby Belmont Road, was also forced to shut on Saturday after a customer tested positive.

In a Facebook post, the bar said everyone who came in contact with the person had been notified.

It was due to reopen at midday today (Sunday) following a deep clean.

Bolton currently has the highest coronavirus infection rate in the country at 104.3 per 100,000 people.

Yesterday, tighter restrictions were brought in across the borough in a bid to stem the spread of the virus.

People living in the town are no longer allowed to mix with anyone outside their household and must only use public transport for 'essential purposes'.
